Recession? Economy Contract? Wage Decline? Simi!!?
Come, Limpeh break it down for you.

Wah, MAS says we confirm going to a recession. DBS says headline year-on-year GDP will drop by 7%, almost 46k jobs maybe will kena cut. The numbers see already, the words so cheem…my head paining.

Ji pai xiao liao lor?

Before you go and anyhow spread the news say Singapore die already, limpeh teach you economics lesson first. Or else you kena POFMA, then really die already.

In 2009, after the Lehman Brothers collapsed, Singapore’s economy grew by only 0.1 per cent. Means what? It means that all the important sectors in our country slowed down and didn’t earn enough money to meet our national targets.

This time, it will be even worse. MAS says our economic growth will be negative. Jialat.

The last time this happened was during the Asian Financial Crisis.

All you business owners sure kiasee now lah. But then ah, mai kan cheong first. You worry or complain so much now also got no use one. You think this recession got quick fix ah? Wait long long lah. Who don’t want this bloody virus to faster end?

Government already announced the additional Budget packages to help Singaporeans and local businesses. Limpeh do summary below:

  1. $600 for every adult + up to $900 for eligible households
  2. Co-funding of first $4,600 for employee salaries
  3. Foreign worker levy waiver + $750 rebate for every work permit / S-pass holder

Got free money for us, tax relief and flexibility on loans for businesses. Quite good right?

If you all need more help, scared what? Don’t scared malu, just contact the Social Service Offices or Community Centres. But also give them time to process your request lah, so many people also need help mah — not just you leh.

This recession is also not your typical economic recession.

But ah I say first. This recession is also not your typical economic recession. In normal recession, government lower tax and spend more, invest more, so our GDP will go up and economy will recover. But this COVID-19 recession is all around the world. No matter how much money our government spend or give us….not so simple one la.

You think first: why is Singapore’s economy one of the strongest? Because we are an open economy and we trade with so many countries and bring in overseas companies to invest here. So if other countries cui now then they don’t want to trade with us or put money here, we also jialat mah. Tio boh?

So when government says we are headed for recession, sure kena one no matter what. But government also announce all these budgets is to help keep us afloat.

Ok, ok. We look forward first. First thing most important is we overcome this virus. Once there is no more virus in Singapore, we can end the CB, go back to work, go back to our usual lives, then the economy can slowly pick up again.

But also, we must see how the rest of the world also recover la.

For now, what can we all do? First, STAY AT HOME PLEASE! If you go out, wear a mask then faster chop-chop go home after that. Don’t be a CB hor. The faster we kick out the virus, the faster we can reopen our economy.

Limpeh also got some pro-tips to help you out at home.

Since you and your kids are at home now, can try to save money also la. Not every day need to get delivery, right? Try to cook for your family. No one say must be MasterChef level. Can eat with family good already, right?

I know some of you also will say stay at home means electricity bill go up. Eh, adjust lah! No need to always turn on aircon what. Then those of you spam the online sales, buy clothes buy makeup, HELLO, for what ah? Don’t anyhow buy things la, please, tolong. You also got nowhere to go, cos you’re supposed to be AT HOME. Zoom call, just use filter.

Yesterday Ah Huat told me he bought a new TV for his house because now he every day at home got nothing to do. Walao eh, government give you the extra $600 not for you to go shopping one leh. Times are bad already, so save money lah.

To be honest, some of us may kena retrench, or no choice have to take pay cut. You all need money, don’t look for ah long hor. Go look at the SGUnited Job Portal. Can think what you want to be in your second career.

Those towkays scared about your business now, you all also use this time to think how you all can transform your business also lah. Don’t so stubborn, things different already. You upgrade your workers, upgrade your technology, then your company also become more efficient mah. Government already announce transformation package, go and find out more lah.

If you all need more tips, limpeh organise lesson on Zoom call lah. I show you my Hsien Loong filter. Steady bo?
